A chiasm is a literary structure where the words of the first section of a passage are repeated in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 24:22 the climax is that the days of the great tribulation (Matt 24:21) will be cut short for the sake of the elect, otherwise none would survive.
