A chiasm is a literary structure where the words and themes of the first section of a passage are repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Matthew 20:29-34, the climax is the two blind men calling out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” (Matt 20:30b-31).
