A chiasm is a literary structure where vocabulary of the first section of a passage is repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Luke 1:5-25 the center and climax is the angel of the Lord appearing to Zecharias and telling him, “your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John” Luke 1:11-13).
