A chiasm is a literary structure where vocabulary of the first section of a passage is repeated in reverse order in the second. The center of the chiasm is typically the climax of the passage. In Luke 13:10-17 the center and climax is Jesus answering the synagogue official who criticized him healing on the Sabbath, “You hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead him away to water him?” (Luke 13:14-15).
