The Chiasm of Ezra 7:14-26: The Letter from Artaxerxes
A chiasm is a literary structure where the themes of the first section of a passage are repeated in reverse order in the second. Typically whatever is in the center of the chiasm is what is being emphasized. In Ezra 7:14-26 the emphasis is on the gifts from the royal treasury of Persia for the building of the Jewish temple (Ezra 7:19-20).
